Creamy Sausage & Sage Baked Orzo

Prep Time: 15 min | Cook Time: 30 min | Servings: 1

Some people spend a whole day toiling to create a luxurious, ultra-creamy pasta. We… don’t always have that kind of patience. What we do have, though, is the internet, which recently crowned a faster favorite: the creamy baked orzo. This version takes the viral pasta trend up a notch with two key ingredients doing the heavy lifting: Boursin cheese, which melts into chicken broth as orzo pasta turns silky, and our Italian Herb Chicken Sausage, packed with Calabrian chiles, roasted garlic, and fragrant herbs. The result? A bubbling, golden-topped sausage and orzo bake that’s hearty, comforting, and guaranteed to steal the spotlight at dinner.

Chef’s tip: Want to switch it up? You can easily add other vegetables like mushrooms, bell peppers, or sun-dried tomatoes along with the onions for extra color and flavor.

1 package Italian Herb Chicken Sausage, casing removed and hand crumbled
1 tablespoon olive oil
0.5 yellow onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon teaspoon chopped fresh sage (or .5 teaspoon dried sage)
4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
1.5 cups uncooked orzo
1 teaspoon kosher salt
0.25 teaspoon reshly ground black pepper
1 5oz package Garlic & Fine Herbs Boursin cheese
4 cups baby spinach, roughly chopped
2 tablespoons chopped parsley

Instructions

Prep Time: 15 min | Cook Time: 30 min | Servings: 1
1
Preheat your oven to 400°F.
2
In a large oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the crumbled sausage and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned, about 4 minutes. Next, add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook, stirring regularly, until softened, about 5 minutes. Now, stir in the minced garlic and sage and cook for another minute until fragrant.
3
Pour in the chicken broth and stir in the orzo, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then stir in the Boursin cheese until it's completely melted and the sauce is smooth. Add the baby spinach and stir to combine.
4
Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the orzo has absorbed most of the liquid and is cooked through.
5
Carefully remove the skillet from the oven. Let the dish rest for a few minutes before garnishing with chopped parsley and serving.
